“You have to carry your tattoo forever unless you go for laser removal, but it is 10 times more painful and expensive than doing a new tattoo.” He said.

Cosplayers must have the right attitude
Cosplayers must have the right attitude
by Lee Hui Ying
Cosplay has
recently become popular among youngster in Malaysia. However, some of them,
especially newbies, they don’t have the right attitude towards cosplaying.
Experienced cosplayers explain that, a professional cosplayer should be able to
fully represent the characteristics of a character.
Shawn Ngu, 25,
has been cosplaying since year 2009. He found that the newbies just want to
look good like their favorite character but they don’t really study the
character’s mannerisms.
“They must
present the characteristics of the particular character by watching series and
pay attention on how the character carries himself or herself.”
For Leon Seow,
20, Malaysian cosplayers can be classified into 4 types, according to the
purpose of joining cosplay.
“First, they
serve cosplaying as a springboard for the sake of to be famous, to gain more
exposure. Second, they take cosplaying as a platform to know more friends who
shares same interest. Third, cosplay is just a hobby and entertainment for them.
Lastly, they join cosplay for fun, which is the new badge of cosplayer.”
Newbies requires self-enhancement
Generally, the
new cosplayers didn’t understand what cosplay is. In their cognition, cosplay
is just wearing costume, accessories and photo shooting.
Leon explained, “A cosplayer must show their
respect to the character. Cosplay is not just wearing the costume, wig and
accessories, but the character’s behavior too. This is what the newbies have to
learn. ”.
Yap Hui Wei, 18,
has been cosplaying for 4 years. She added, new cosplayers usually have low
self-enhancement as in costume, wig styling skills, make up skills, performance
and making of accessories and props.
“I don’t like
their attitude. They think they are good enough when they have photo shooting
with some famous photographers. In fact, they should put more effort in
improving themselves in all aspects.”

Cosplay: No longer forbid by parents
Cosplay: No longer forbid by parents
by Lee Hui Ying
There are many stereotypes and misconceptions toward cosplay and
cosplayers, especially parents. They tend to have the mindset that cosplay is such
as waste of time and money, an unhealthy activity and immature. However,
parents are getting more open-minded and it has become more acceptable for
them, some of them even join their children to cosplay.
In Malaysia, cosplay has become a growing subculture recently. It is a
hobby increasing in popularity over the years. This can be seen from the
increasing of participants in yearly event such as Comic Fiesta, c2age, World
Cosplay Summit, Anicom Cosplay Competition and others.
Jared Cheah, 27, event director of Comic Fiesta said, number of cosplayers
participated in Comic Fiesta are increasing in these few years, which is almost
double up the previous amount every year.
“One of reason
is because of parents, as they are more open-minded nowadays. They allow and
support their children to cosplay.” Said Jared.
Parents helps in preparation
Evangeline Tong, 22, has been cosplaying for 6 months. She joined
cosplay without her parents’ consent initially. Her first time cosplaying was
at the Comic Fiesta 2012, as Ririchiyo Shirakiin, a character with a Naginata (Japanese halberd). She had spent 3 days to get the halberd and
costume completed with her mum’s help.
Evangeline said, “I think my parents already
realized by that time but they didn’t ask me more about it.”
“I showed them the photos which had taken during
the event. Surprisingly, my dad didn’t forbid me to cosplay but
complimenting about the photos instead.”
Cosplay is just a hobby
Evangeline’s mum, Leem Lei Hoon, 48, supports
her to cosplay as long as she can manage her time for studies and work. She
also helps Evangeline in searching the materials for the accessories during her
first time cosplaying.
“My first impression about cosplay is costume
role-playing of characters from Japanese anime. Well, cosplay is just a hobby
rather than taking drugs, gambling and smoking.”
Most of the parents fear that cosplay will bring
negative influence to their children in all kind of aspect, like lacking
of interests in academics and involve themselves with unhealthy
activities.
Leem said, this is due to his or her own personality.
I used to trust my daughter because she is sensible. She can always manage her studies
well. Therefore, I can be sure that she wouldn’t involve herself with unhealthy
activities.

This
is a common sight where the ordinary people in Malaysia probably do
this all the time, with their smartphones or tablets that always stay
connected to the social media.
Dennis
Choo Chin Young, 22, is a food hunter. He treats photography as an art, that
everyone is capable with the fundamental skills to perform such act. In his
Facebook profile, there are 2 food albums that stored more than 300 photos
of foodographs.
“Capturing dishes is exactly same as capturing sceneries, in order to stop the time and to share to the world.” He expressed it in a way of philosophy.
Another foodography
lover, Gen Yong Yik Fong, 19, stated that, “ I like to share the food that I
have eaten, I’ve been trying to stop myself taking foodographs but can’t,
because I will like regret if not taken.” Gen could just simply make himself
happy by capturing the foods.
With
the companion of technology gadgets, Dennis and Gen tend to have more
opportunities to capture the dishes whenever they eat. Sharing is the climate
today, however, sometimes the outward might away from your preferences.
“I
am just utilizing the functions in my phone to capture the delicious foods that
I had and to share it on Facebook, to my friends and family.” Dennis explained.
Gen
has hundred over pieces of foodographs taken by himself. He will download and
save the foodographs if he thinks it is yummy and delicious. “I like Instagram
recently, because the filters can make my photos look nicer, easy to share on
social networks as well.”
Dennis and Gen are doing it similarly to the home-cooked foodography, yet they do not cook at own, style the dishes at own and design the layout at own. They always capture the dishes that completely served with its own culinary art, without redesigning it.
“Original is the best, we have paid for the design, therefore we
are actually enjoying the service.” Dennis deemed.
