Since the mid-1990s, the Korean Wave, Hallyu has conquering several Asian countries by spreading their music, drama and variety show. Recently, K-Wave has started to penetrate European and North American countries with K-Pop. However, what is the uniqueness of K-Wave that win the support from audiences?

Korean Music

Kpop, the abbreviation of Korean popular music, is now famous in many countries. Kpop music has successfully attracted audiences by their rhythmic melody and impressive dance. Kpop music usually combining with dance which can be remember easily and can be learnt quickly.

The Korean Entertainment Companies also making an effort to improve the quality of the music to attract a global audience by increasing the cooperation with composers and other artists in other countries.

Korean Drama

Nowadays, even the elders also enjoy Korean drama. The Korean dramas are usually full of variety because the used to adapt from novels and comics. Besides, the latest fashion, modern lifestyle and romantic background music which present in the drama have drawn people’s attention.

Sometimes, the directors will target the most popular singers who have the attractive physical appearance to become the leading roles in their dramas so fans will watch the dramas to support their idols. This also adds up the attractiveness of Korean dramas.

Kah Min, the Korean drama fans, thinks that the productions of Korean dramas have the better quality in the aspect of the scene and background music. “As compare to the unpredictable of Korean drama, I have fed up with the similar plots, familiar actors and actresses in Taiwanese drama.”

In addition, she thinks that Korean dramas can often reflect real problems in life. For example, the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, men and women, parents and children, superiors and subordinates.

Korean Variety Shows

Besides Korean dramas and Kpop, the Korean variety shows have also swept the world. According to Yong Kai, the editor of Daily Kpop News (M), the Korean variety shows is interesting because it seldom have dull moment.

The rules of games in Korean Variety Shows are very exciting and interesting in every aspect. For example, Running Man, the most popular variety shows in Korea. Everything is possible in the shows. For instance, audiences can participate in the show and play games together with the hosts. “In Korea, idols always take part in the variety show. So, people get to see the hidden side of the idols through the Korean Variety Shows. ” 

There is another special variety show named “We Got Married”. The show pairs up the popular idols together to show what the life would be if they were married. Each week, couples are assigned missions to complete, and interviews will be done to reveal their thoughts and feelings

In recent years, the variety shows of other countries such as Taiwanese variety shows have begun to imitate the Korean Variety Shows. However, it fail to attract the audiences.
