The founder and chairman of SM Entertainment, Lee Soo-man, is the person who came up with the idea of moulding singers into well-designed products.

The training system was first started with the boy band named H.O.T. in year 1990. Five talented young boys were picked out and intensive training over a two-year period is given to nurture them to become a well prepared artist. H.O.T. soon became popular in Korea and then in China and Southeast Asia.

Besides, they also focus on one’s physical appearance.

Since the environment of entertainment industry in Korea is always competitive and stressful, the debuted singers are still focus on the practice of every single song, dance and even the way of eye contact with audiences before they come on stage.
